Calligraphy is considered to be a highly creative art form in Islamic Art, as it does not portray any figures of living beings for religious reasons. Calligraphy is also considered to be meditative and relaxing. It allows you to see each word and phrase. Calligraphy is a form of art that emphasizes the beauty and history of the written word.

This Ramadan, Youth Opportunities is organizing a calligraphy competition titled “City Islamic presents In search of Islamic Calligraphy” to encourage young calligraphers of Bangladesh in Islamic art and culture. The purpose of this competition is to revive and promote the classical art of Islamic calligraphy. Along with promoting Islamic art and culture, this competition provides a platform for the youth of Bangladesh to express themselves in this form of art, and also be productive during this pandemic.

So if you are a Calligraphy Enthusiast, don’t wait up. Participate in the competition and win exciting prizes.

Who Can Participate?

Any youth living in Bangladesh within the age group of 15-35 years can participate.

Rules

  • The Calligraphy has to be the participant’s original work. Copying from the internet will lead to disqualification.
  • The art can be either in portrait or landscape
  • Any standard chart size can be used. For example: 24”/30” or 20”/24”
  • Participants can use brush, pen, pencils, crayons, water color, ink etc
  • The artwork can include any designs (as long as it does not resemble human or animal figures)
  • The size of the artwork should not be more than 2MB
  • One individual can submit multiples artworks with multiple submissions

Submission Process

Make a Calligraphy in either Arabic or in Bangla

Take a clear picture of your Calligraphy. Recommended mobile app for scanning the art are: Photomyne, Microsoft Lens, Genius Scan, Google PhotoScan, Adobe Scan, FamilySearch Memories, CamScanner, Clear Scan

You may also use a scanner to scan the image

Now fill up the Submission form. Read the terms and conditions. You can submit your art in PDF or JPEG

FAQs

You may choose either Arabic or Bangla

Yes, you can, as long as you have the ownership. However, we would appreciate it if you submit your new work. This will in no way affect the judgment.

No, we will not accept any artwork that is more than 2MB

Whatever you choose. Both are fine.

Of course you can. But for that you have to fill up the form multiple times. For example, if you want to participate in the competition with 2 artworks. You have to fill up the form twice.

The organizers will hold the owning rights of Top 12 calligraphy. Acknowledgement and credits will be given to the Calligraphers. Read more in terms and conditions. 

No, you don’t have to submit the hard copy immediately for participating in the competition.
If you are selected as top 12, then you  have to submit the hard copy. 

No, we will only provide the flight ticket. Taking care of your visa, accomodation, transportation and food is your responsibility.
